XP freezes during defrag

im having a problem defraging the system partition, with
my win xp setup. every time i go to defrag c: drive it
locks up, it also does this with scan disk. i have had no
probs with the second partition though.
any one wanna help??

Your hard drive may be dying. Do a hardware diagnosis - the major mftrs.
all have utilities to download.
