XP Firewall Settings

I use a dial up for internet access. I've been trying to
enable a firewall prior to downloading the blaster worm
patch, as suggested by the download instructions. BUT, I
can't access the settings. When I right click on the
connection icon (as instructed), nothing happens. Same
thing if I click on "Change Settings" under network task.
I also noticed that the status shows "disconnected" even
when I'm online. Anybody have any ideas what the problem
is?

Greetings --

You'll need to find a 3rd party firewall that is compatible with
AOL.

AOL (an on-line content provider that ignores international
Internetworking standards in favor of its own proprietary products),
has deliberately made its connection software incompatible with both
WinXP's built-in firewall and WinXP's Internet Connection Sharing
feature. AOL's proprietary connection applet is deliberately designed
to preclude your setting/adjusting any of its properties, to include
enabling/disabling WinXP's ICF and ICS.
