I only use servers for FTP and web on 21 and 80. Why is
it two ports keep getting opened up on TCP 15817 and UDP
11330? If I delete them, they just come right back after
a day or so.

I have the same problem and I would like to know the
answer, since I definitely do not want these open ports in
my internet firewal security. The service, which is
opening the ports automatically for me is 'msmsgs' (as it
is written in the firewal advanced settings). Is it the
same for you, or some other service opens it?

Thanks,

Yuri

If you have a decent firewall like nortons or zone alarm
it will know if this program is both valid and or
harmless and will either block it or allow it access

I had similar problem with automatic opened ports in
firewal. They were appearing for 'msmsgs'. 'Msmsgs' is
Windows Messenger, so as soon you exit it and in its
options make sure that it does not start automatically
when Windows starts, everything will be fine. Maybe it
will help you.

Thanks,

Yuri.

Yes it is msmsgs. But, I wanted to know what application
was triggering it. I thought I had Windows Messenger
killed (prevented from starting) but maybe not. Maybe
one of those lovely critical patches reenabled it. :)

The XP ICF is UPnP compliant, so applications can request it to open
ports. Therefore, it is best to focus on what applications are running
and listening on the ports that ICF has opened.
