XP Fax Not 'Popping Up' to Notify Incoming

I've troubleshot, I've uninstalled & reinstalled, I've read all the help files. A couple of weeks ago, unbeknownst to me, my fax/modem ceasee notifying me of an incoming fax - it used a ringing phone and the fax console would pop up. I've got all the items checked properly in Fax Configuration, I've checked Windows sounds, I even unchecked, rechecked, shut off computer, etc. Help, it's driving me nuts. Thanks in advance.
 
A number of standard update and repair procedures disabled the Fax Monitor
in the initial release of Windows XP. These problems were fixed in Service
Pack 1. Make sure you apply SP1 if you notice this problem. The following
may also apply:

HI, Russ, thank you for your reply. I don't have Norton Internet Security and I am running SP1. Hmmm. Can you think of anything else I can try?

Is your modem used to dial up on the internet?
