I have re-instaled XP onto a new hard drive. Installation seems OK, no error
messages. When XP finishes install and reboots, startup stops at the
microsoft logo screen. I am able to boot up into safe mode and system seems
to work.
Any Ideas?
Thanks

this is because one of the next reasons:
1. problem with device drivers (Incompatible)
2. Corrupted Device
So Try to Disable the Card Drivers (Modem, Sound(if not embedded device),
VGA) one after other in the safe mode till you find out which one is the
reason

I just had an XP installation fail. Actually a reinstallation. I had XP
on the system, and decided to format and start from scratch. It stalled
during installation, I think at some place where it was "looking for
devices". I removed all devices except the minimum required to run,
video card, monitor, mouse and keyboard. The installation proceeded
without problem. Then I added all of the devices and drivers one by one.
Everything is now back in place and everything works better than before.

Thanks for the info.
Turns out is was a problem with the BIOS. Some how the on board sound was
enabled, after dissableing, setup completed OK.
Thanks
