XP Doesn't recognize CD drive

XP does not recognize my cd drive. I have no access at
all the it and I've checked everything I know. Does
anyone have a recommendation? I have checked the
manufactures site and it states that it should be
recognized.

You may have had some software that has been removed or bypassed but
left references in the registry that the startup of the system cannot
satisfy - so it leaves the device out. To tidy up, get a registry patch
file, cdgone.reg, from www.aumha.org/downloads/cdgone.zip, extract it,
r-click on it and merge it into the registry

You will then need to reinstall any CD burning software that you use.
