XP doesn't recognize 200Gb Hard Drive

I upgraded my hard drive ( got a 200 Gb). When I installed XP, it only
recognized 137Gb. From what I have read, that is the largest size that XP
will recognize until you install a Service Pack so I went ahead with the
install anyway. Now I have XP installed, updated to Service Pack 2, but XP
still shows that I have 137 Gb hard drive. What do I have to do to have XP
recognize the large HD?

My mistake, I was looking at the my computer thinking that it would magically
show the increased hard drive, but the drive is partitioned so there is the
"extra" GB not being used.

Now other questions, is there a way to make it so that I have only 1
partition so that it's just the whole 200GB instead of being split into two
different ones? Why would someone partition a hard drive other than using it
to organize files?

Make sure you have at least XP SP1 installed (to support drives lerger than
137GB, which is a limitation existing pre-SP1)
and then use a 3rd party product like Symantec's Partition Magic or Acronis'
PartitionExpert to 'enlarge' the existing partition onto the remaining
unallocated disk space.

If the "missing" portion of the HDD does not show as unallocated space in disk management then you will not be able to use that space.

Is the HDD attached to a controller card? The card may have its own BIOS limitation (mine does) of 137GB. I had 4 HDDs installed, now I have 2, a 160 and a 200GB each divided into 4 partitions for easy backup.
