I have a brand new system that I want to install windows
XP. When I go through setup it does not recognize my
Serial ATA drive. The Maxtor drive utility recognizes it
correctly and I can partition it. I even loaded up the
driver from a floppy during setup but to no avail. Can
anyone help on what I do next.

It's because Windows XP does not have your mass-storage drivers for your
ATA controller. You'll want to do the following:

1. A floppy disk should have come with the controller. If you put in the
floppy, you should have a file called TXTSETUP.OEM on the root of the disk.
make sure you have this disk or contact the manufacturer of the controller
to get it.

2. Boot off of the WinXP cdrom. When you see "Press F6" flash on the bottom
of the screen, press it and follow the directions on installing your
mass-storage controller driver.

I actully did that but it still does not work. The driver
loads but windows setup says that it does not recognize
the disk. I guess I will install an IDE disk and try it
that route. Any other sugesstions.
