Win XP Pro

ipconfig /all shows correct DNS servers; however, nslookup and other
utilities that attempt to actually perform DNS lookups use incorrect
DNS servers. It appears that nslookup and others are getting DNS
servers from somewhere else.

any ideas?

Start by checking your Hosts file, and for a Hosts file hijack.

Then check for LSP / Winsock corruption.
