XP disk boot failure

I am running XP Pro. The system will not boot into safe mode. It keeps
looping in a reboot giving me the options for the type of boot, but none
work. Not even my "Last good configuration" or safe mode. So I attempted
to boot from my XP CD and it tells me file ql1240.sys is corrupt and tells
me to hit any key to reboot. It does the same thing each time I attempt to
start it from the XP CD. Any suggestions? If I can't get the cd to boot
how would I ever reinstall windows if that's what it takes?

Your suggestions are appreciated.

By downloading the floppies from your hard drive manufactuer's web site and
using them to format and partition your drive and then the XP CD should
work.

Alias

What kind of CD are you using? Is it a Dell recovery CD, by any chance?
Or is it a full "generic" version of XP Pro?

Yes, its a Dell recovery CD.

Question: Have you attempted to use this disk in the past?
If you have not used the disk successfully in the past, then:
Someone else may have a better solution, but I would suggest that you
contact Dell regarding this file and the fact that it appears to be
corrupted. In fact, even if you have used the disk previously, the disk
appears to have a defect at this time and may need replacing.

Yes I have used it before. Anyway, a friend of mine let me borrow his disk
to get it back up and running. I'll contact Dell for a replacement.

Thanks,
Kelly

Most times this is a hardware issue and can be solve by holding the F8
key at startup and entering the BIOS. In the BIOS reset the hardware
configuration key and reboot.

Post in windowsxp.general and start a new post, don't post as a reply to
