Has anyone experienced continual crashes in XP Home Edition - Upgrade from Win98.

Win 98 is installed in Drive C and all works ok.

Device Manager in XP indicates all is well. Event Viewere is corrupt.

Hi DES
I had the same problem. The answer I got from MS was to
do a clean install. Upgrading from another O\S can leave
files behind that the new O\S does not recognise as
verified files. This inturn can corrupt windows xp.
However, I would also check the compatability list for
Harware and software if you have not yet done so. I also
had this problem with ME that I did not uninstall the
virus protection software first. It was a real mess. My
advice is to check compatability first then do a clean
install. I hope this helps!

Thanks Tommyboy

This is just about the only option I have not tried so far - I tried a clean boot from Win98 with only autoexec.bat and config.sys loaded but had no luck.

Will try your suggestion tonight and let you know if it does the trick

Clean boot worked perfectly

I used the XP installation to reformat drives, thus deleting old Win98 installation and putting XP on Drive C. Saved some disk space too

Thanks a lot
