Can anyone tell me why my computer is suddenly crashing
whenever I try to play a game.I now get a device driver
error message that is causing the crash, but it doesn't
know which one.I have not installed anything new except
the updates from microsoft. It has never done this before
all the new microsoft updates starting July 2nd. Now I
also get out of memory messages & the resources are at
100% most of the time. I use Norton, spy sweeper, &
trojan hunter. The computer takes forever to start up
now, seems to scan the floppy disk drive 3 times before
it starts to load windows. I have dsl, downloads are
fast, but browsing takes forever too. It also scans the
floppy drive on shutdown. Thanks!:)

.
start--control panel--performance and maintenance,click
the system icon--click advance tab--under performance
click settings--click the advance tab on that--under
virtual memory click change--check circle next to system
managed size, after you highlighted the drive at top,if
you have more than one,do them all like this--click OK--
OK--OK--Click restart for changes to take effect button.
then get ad-aware from www.ad-aware.com update
run it and delete the junk.

It is already set the way you said to. It only says there
is 382mg of virtual memory. Is that enough?

Ill try to help one at a time here..the game crashing
sounds like its caused from you vid card drivers so make
sure there up to date or not damaged.Ive had a memory
problem like what you discribed and the fix was in my
bios..somehow it was set to a OS2 with 64 megs of ram..ie:
linux system so check your mother board settings to ensure
you have running a plug and play system enabled..the
floppy drive scan can be fixed in there also. its checking
the pins is the reason it scans so long..Norton is a great
AV, but its useless if its not updated, so make sure it
is..Second thought about the out of ram, you may have to
many apps running at start up..On the slow broswer, go
into your control panel and open up uninstall software and
look for any tool bars that there..remove all of
them..your anti spyware wont detect these but they track
you over the web so it does slow you down..the last part
you say it scans your floppy at shut down..if you mean
your AV is then disable it in the options of norton or
your trojan scanner..hope this helps..

Please post the complete *verbatim* text of the error message(s) that
you are getting, including all of the parameters. There may also be a
file named at the bottom of the error message screen. If so please
include that as well.

I am not familiar with Spy Sweeper and none of the spyware specialists
that I communicate with have it on their list of recommended software.
Not saying that it isn't good, just that it is an unknown quantity to
me and therefore I suggest you try some alternate products. See MVP
Jim Eshelman's spyware page at http://www.aumha.org/a/parasite.htm
First use the "Online parasite scanner" link in the left side column
and then try the removal and cleanup tools suggested in the
Anti-Parasite Quick-Fix section.

Good luck

Do you have a Firewall installed?

Spyware causes many problems. If not installed download Adaware and update
Reference file from http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/
and use it to remove parasites.

Post details of Error Reports in Event Viewer?
Make an exact note of the precise text of any error message. Minor
discrepancies can
make it harder to search for information about the error message.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools, Event
Viewer.
When researching the meaning of the error, information regarding Event ID,
Source
and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308427&Product=winxp

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you should
double click
for further information and you can copy using copy and paste.
http://go.microsoft.com/fw.link/events.asp
(Please note the hyperlink above is for illustration purposes only)

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double click
on the
error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a button resembling
two
pages. Double click the button and close Event Viewer. Now start your
message
(email) and do a paste into the body of the message. This will paste the
info from the
Event Viewer Error Report complete with links into the message. Make sure
this is
the first paste after exiting from Event Viewer.
