Okay, lets start with the obvious:
You found your "C" drive was erased? Please clarify.
You wanted to contact customer support but your product ID is supposedly
invalid??
Please explain? You state you "don't know where it is located"???
Is it a full XP installation? Or an OEM pre-installation with a PC package?

well, the Gateway computer i have had a preinstalled version of windows XP
home edtion. im not very technical, i found out that my hard drive was erased
because of a friend i have checked the computer out.

one more thing. my friend has also told me that the partitions on the hard
drive were erased. everything was wiped out clean.

You will need to obtain a CD from Gateway if you don't already have one.
(Unless you want to spring for a retail copy) At the very least you will
need to obtain any Gateway peculiar software drivers for use with a retail
CD. Do you have the OEM "Key" ? (It will not work with most retail versions
of windows, and a retail key does not work with most OEM versions of
windows.

Have your "friend" download BootitNG and make the Floppy. You can recreate
your partitions with that. You won't even lose any data most likely. {Even
works on that "even worse," Linux!}
