Hope someone has experienced this...

My cd-rom registers under windows XP but it can't see the contents of
any cd's inserted,
however when booted in safe mode all is well...

Suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your reply Kenny...

Have tried it, no go though, also tried different cd-roms, same results
with all types and brands, funny thing is that when the windows is
loaded with the cd in the drive than the system can see it!

The operating system is Windows XP Home Second Edition,
no errors seen in devises,
no ghost drives,
no errors on boot,
all seems well in bios,
no viruses...

Cheers,
Tad

Has the CD-Rom drive ever worked after a normal boot?
In My Computer, does the CD name appear with the CD-ROM drive letter.
If you right click on the CD drive, is Autoplay at the top of the list?
What are the settings for Autoplay?
Can you see the contents of the CD if you right click, Explore?

Second Edition was Win 98.
SP 2 is XP.

Thank you all so much for your help and suggestions, it helped...

The problem was the "u-storage 2.4" (USB storage device) loaded on
startup, uninstalling the drivers did the trick...
