OK. Here's the deal. I've been reading this newsgroup for
three weeks now hoping to find an answer to thisa problem,
and I can see from the other posts that I am far from
alone. Windows XP CANNOT FIND THE DOMAIN CONTROLLER!!!
OK. 1. |Verified DNS points to itself, static IP's, and no
others. DNS domain and AD namesapce match.
2. Ran netdiag and dcdiag. Everything checks out.
3. Ran netdiag and ldp.exe on client. Everything checks
out.
4. Try to join domain. I even get a message saying that an
account for the client PC was found on the domain, but 30
seconds later, "The network path was not found."
Tell me why I should not wipe both XP boxes and reload
them with 2000 Pro?

DNS points to itself?? What machine. DNS on the clients must be pointing
the server that is hosting the AD namespace.

DNS on clients points to DC. Clients resolve ping to DC by
name. Only DNS entry on DHCP is AD DC. ISP DNS set up as
forwarder in DNS. Client can connect to and bind to DC
using ldp.exe.

Is the DC also the DNS server? Do you have the SRV records in the forward
lookup zone?

The DC is the DNS server, and all of the various DcDiag
and NetDiag tests come back positive- SRV records appear
to all be there.
