Hello:
I am a new XP Pro owner. I have used the program for a while but not on my
own machine. Now that I have it I discovered that when you burn a cd using
the included burning software it changes the modified date of the files to
the day and time of the cd your are burning.

Is there anything I can do the change this?

I will install my copy of Nero (been using that software on my old machine)
that came with my burner but just wanted to know if there was a work around
to keep the original file dates with the windows burner software.

Thanks

Hi Vince,

Install Nero, there is nothing you can do to change that in the native
burning engine.

Forget that native XP burner - it's too basic for even basic tasks!
Truly deserves the POS award of excellence

Thanks guys that is exactly what I thought was gonna happen. My Nero is
getting installed in just a few minutes.

No there isn't. It's because the inbuilt burning starts with a copy
operation to a holding area, and that sets the creation date of the
copies - to the time it was done. The technique also implies a big
overhead on hard disk space, first for these copies, second for an image
to be made of the resulting session, before that is burned.

The system is there to provide basic burning facilities for those with
nothing else; as you have the something else (Nero) - use it. But check
at www.nero.com for updates to the version you have (free within the
basic major version)

Also, while that built in burning does work, I found it somewhat flaky
but not consistently so. From memory, it's great on the first session
but I sometimes got problems on successive sessions. Not too swift on
reporting space used/required either.
Burn4free is freeware and is quite good for what most users might need.
If you need bootable cd, 3 little programs imgflypd, mkbiso and burncdcc
are freeware downloads from bootitng.com or use freeware burnatonce. Of
course if you have Nero, use that.
