I just upgrade my pc OS using XP upgradeable version build
2600, now I am having a problem of my XP shutting down
after connecting to internet. I tried updating with
SP1..it says...could not be patched.

SP1 will only install on legitimate or legal versions of XP.

You may not have a legal version of XP.

If you have a concern regarding this you can contact your local Microsoft
office or the supplier of the PC.

Some resellers do not provide genuine Microsoft products and seek to gain
some financial advantage. For example:
Reseller monitoring program catches Sydney-based reseller in second
copyright violation

A Sydney-based reseller facing a payout for a second copyright violation.

Big Ben Computer (registered in the name of Ben Zhong Fan) made a A$55,000
compensation payment after being sued in the Federal Court for selling copies
of Microsoft Windows software hard loaded on to personal computers. It's the
second time Big Ben Computer has been caught using unlicensed Microsoft
products. In February 2001, the company reached a settlement with Microsoft
for copyright violation and paid A$10,000 in damages.

Distributing unlicensed products gives illegal operators an unfair
competitive advantage. Regular monitoring of the channel ensures that honest
distributors and resellers are not disadvantaged by software piracy.

Microsoft began re-investigating Big Ben Computer in May 2001 and in
December 2001, evidence was obtained of an illegal copy of Microsoft Windows
being hard loaded onto a personal computer.

Civil proceedings were filed in July 2002 and continued with a trial date
set for October 2003. However, Big Ben Computer elected to settle the matter
before the trial.

As part of the settlement, Mr Fan must make arrangements to re-supply
customers of Big Ben Computers with genuine Microsoft software. Mr Fan must
also implement a licensing and copyright requirements training program for
his staff by December. Mr Fan is restrained from reproducing or authorising
reproduction of any Microsoft program without a licence. Infringement of
Microsoft's trademark through manufacturing or authorising any other
organisation to do so will constitute a breach of settlement.
