Hi there,

I have recently been having problems accessing one website.
The website worked perfectly fine til tuesday night/wednesday morning. No
other persoon I have spoken too are having issues with the site (they are all
regular users too...) and the website owner states that there have been no
issues.

I have performed a system restore to no avail. I have completed a check for
spyware (picked up responses so I quarantined and deleted them) and this has
not rectified the problem.

I have contacted my ISP - they have conducted numerous tests and say this
issues lies somewhere within my computer - (the ping test times out but the
tracer works right up til it hits the required website).

I have norton anti-virus 2003 installed, all up to date with subscription.

I am at my wit's end...

Does anyone have any ideas?

I have had a similar issue recently and it was down to the ISP's Cache of the
Site, however from your description of the problem that does not sound likely.

Try accessing the site from IE, but add ?1 at the end of the site address.
i.e. www.microsoft.com?1

This will bypass any cached copies of the page.

The only other thing I can think off would be an entry in the hosts file.

c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts (the file has no extension)

Open the file in Notepad, does this file have any reference to your site? If
so remove the entry and save the file.

Now try acccessing your site.

Greg,

Thanks for your help.

I tried both your suggestions to no avail...

If you think of anything else - be sure to let me know!

Cheers

Michelle

Hi Michelle,

I think this is one of those problems that if you try enough things it will
eventually sort itself out, but you'll not iknow what happened. Try the
following Steps.

In IE, Tools > Internet Options > General Tab > Delete Files Button > Tick
"All offline files" > Click OK.

Delete your hosts file, dont worry windows will recreate it.
C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

Restart Your machine and try accessing the site again.

If still no joy try the following
In IE, Tools > Internet Options > Advanced Tab > Untick "Enable 3rd party
browser extensions" Click Apply, then OK.

Restart then try the site again.

If still no Joy then reenable the option above and then let me know and
we'll try something else

Greg,

Unfortuneately no, it still doesn't work! Argh!

Short of throwing the computer under the next semi-trailer that goes past I
have no idea what to do next!

I appreciate your ongoing assistance with this matter.

Thanks,

Michelle

Hi Michelle,
I'm going to have to look into this a bit further. I will get back
to you as soon as possible.

Hello I downloaded SP2 a couple days ago. My PC is functioning very slow.
Now I'm getting multiple IE browsers opening when I click once. I have run
virus scans, spyware scans in safemode. My mouse isn't behaving properly,
hard to click and manuever around. Downloaded the .NET frame SP1 again, I
read the article on what should be reinstalled from SP2 being installed.

None of that says anything about the multiple browser windows opening.

Please helps. I hate the slow startup now, really slow.
