Hi - I have an HP Pavilion laptop and on start up it goes
to a DOS boot device menu. I can select hard disk, CD-ROM,
Disk A or LAN. I don't have a boot CD-ROM. How do I
download and burn one? thanks for your help.

Hi,

Download and burn what type of CD? One to install the OS? Or one to aid in
recovery?

What is on the dos boot screen (by the way, there is no dos in WinXP, what
you are seeing is the bios screen)? Just the options? It likely means the
drive has failed. Download a drive diagnostic tool from the web site of the
drive manufacturer. These free utilities commonly run from a bootable floppy
and will tell you the condition of the drive.
