Recently had a hard drive problem and sent it for repairs, came back with new tower, one CD rom drive missing, Windows XP installed (without prior approval) and a hefty $$$ bill

I asked why the O/S was changed, reply was that XP was much better and I should be using it. No documentation needed, it was easy to use and I could get all updates from Microsoft

So it's been working fine, and I've been learning as I go along, but suddenly had some type of major failure. Computer would not boot properly; that is, it looked like XP was loading as usual but it hung on the Welcome screen for a long time.

To make a long story shorter, I finally got it to start, first in safe mode, and now it acts like it's booting normally but I cannot connect to the internet, (I'm typing from my old laptop, which proceeds at the pace of the average snail

The computer does not seem to have any hardward loaded (printer, modem et. al.)

System Restore doesn't work; it only shows a restore point from the day I first got the computer to boot again AFTER all the problems. No hardware is showing; that is, I cannot view hardward, add hardware, etc

I'm at the end of what's left of my wits. You may call me an idiot if you wish, but please help first! Thank you.

Sounds like this computer shop needs an invite to "Judge Judy" for their
unapproved "Decision" on what YOU wanted...
