I'm following along with "Windows XP Backup Made Easy" by Ed Bott.
All is well until I get to the part to "Decide where to store your backup
file." It WILL NOT let me choose anything other than A. I do not want to
back my files to floppies! What to do, what to do??
Thanks,

Thanks,

Save the backup file to your Desktop (or other preferred area) & then
burn to CD or DVD. Or.......you could move/save the file to an external
HD.

Thanks for the reply. It was helpful; kind of went in through the back
door, so to speak (ignored the prompt for inserting a disc, just saved to
desktop, as you suggested...DUH!)
THANKS!

You're welcome, AR. WinXp Backup doesn't allow direct burning to
CD/DVD.....at least, Home Edition doesn't. Saving to an external HD
&/or burning to disc from the Desktop is the accepted work-around, I
believe.

Carol2, I wonder if you can answer a related question. When I copy files from my hard drive to a CD, the date/time stamp is changed to the time I copied the files. How do I keep the original date modified when I copy the files? Some of the files I'm trying to copy are several years old and I need to keep those dates. I'm running WinXP Home Edition. Thanks for your help........

I'm not sure, querino..... I Think that copying the files to another
source constitutes a modification in the File's Date. Sorry.....that's
the best way I can think to describe it. LOL In Details format, I'd
try right clicking on the toolbar & put a checkmark by Date Created or
Picture Taken to show those attributes. You can then click on each
'division' & drag it to left/right to show what you need to see. I
don't have any archived photo CD's handy at the moment. I've been
archiving mine on my Ext. HD & have just had a new burner installed, so
I'll be tackling this task in a couple weeks.

If this fails to suit you &/or doesn't answer your question, I suggest
posting under a new topic so that more people might see & offer help.

Thanks! I talked to a computer geek (have you noticed that's no longer a pejorative? Hallelujia!) who told me that, essentially, you're right: Windows treats the copied files as if they've just been modified. He said I need to use a backup program to keep the original dates. I didn't really want to hear that......

But thanks again for your help. I had, incidentally, posted my question
"stand-alone" but nobody answered it. That's why I chose the route I did.

It's good to know that I was basically correct, in my answer. 8^)
Other than using a backup program, I guess your other option might be
renaming each of the files to include the DateTaken. For that, you
might be able to use a Batch file in your graphics program.....if it
supports Batch renaming, that is.

I'm sorry......I didn't see your stand-alone question, either.
