Just wondering if there is a "good" reason that MS decided
that backups in the XP enviroment can not be with any
internal CD / CDV etc storage writters. I'm probably
missing something, but I can't see the reason for this.
Win98 was a breeze with the back-up feature. I dont
think "most" people have external storage gear....or am I
wrong. Thanks...Mark

It is designed for tape drives. CDs aren't backup devices. You'll find backup and the other components involved are all about managing tapes. CDs are also read only devices. You don't write to a CD you make a CD.

Thanks David...I'm suprised you mention CD's are not back
up devices ? Also you mention CD's are read only ? They
managed it well in the past with earlier Windows operating
systems backing up to internal writers ? Thanks
anyway...but I'm not sure I really understand your
answer....Mark

Previous versions of windows did not back up to CD. There is software that makes CDs act like floppies that comes with the CD. That works as well on XP.

XP Backup is designed for commercial use in big companies. XP is designed for that. MS, despite having $50 billion in the bank, wants to cut costs. They therefore stopped work on personal computing operating systems, added some cheap programs to XP to hide it's features, and sold it to home users. Tough luck everybody.

"I'm off to buy a tape drive".....thanks again David...

You don't need a tape drive.. buy a second hard drive and keep your
important stuff on that..
