A Sony VAIO entertainment centre running Windows XP has
encountered the following problem. Web connection is via
a USB cable modem, printer connection is via a D-link
wireless cardbus adapter. Individually both work as
expected. Web connection uses dynamic IP, wireless link
uses static IP. When the wireless link is enabled, XP
automatically routes web access down the wireless link.
When the wireless link is disabled, it reverts. For the
latter, first go with IE6 has status line messages
referring to changing proxy settings. User would like to
have print and web at the same time!

Any suggestions on how to resolve this problem?

In Internet Explorer, go to Tools | Internet Options | Connections |
LAN settings and clear all of the boxes on that screen.

If that doesn't fix it, the problem could be that there's a default
gateway specified for the wireless adapter. To see, right click the
wireless network connection and click Status | Support. Only the USB
cable modem should have a default gateway specified.

Thanks Steve, The set-up for the D-link card shows a
default gateway IP address entered so I will ask the user
to try removing that.
