I have Windows XP installed on one pc and Vista RC1 on another, it says I
need to install LLTP Responder on the Xp system to be able to network the
two, but where can I get this file, or is it not available to any-one
anymore. I did find one link to microsofts web site but it doesn't work, so
can someone point me in the right direction for this particular file or patch
or whatever it is. Thanks in advance.

As far as I know (and I may be wrong) it's still in beta.

That's the way I read it, but it's dated 7/18/06

"David [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: will the LLTP responder be included in the next XP Service Pack?
A: We can't commit at this point to release vehicles (can't say
if/when an XP service pack will be available & if LLTD will be in it),
but would like to make it available in a future service pack for XP.
The LLTD beta is the first step in that process."

You don't need the LLTP responder to network Vista and XP. What problems are
you encountering?

In the Networks Places section of Vista the PC machine is not showing up, but
on the XP PC in the Networks Places section the Vista PC is shown albeit with
no folders or files showing. I have Network Magic installed on the XP PC but
not the other one, and at this stage there's no way to put Network Magic on
the Vista PC as it doesn't have a floppy drive in it.

I don't know what Network Magic is but I know it's not needed to network XP
and Vista. What version of XP and what version of Vista? The answer is
different depending on the versions.

The XP version I have is 5.1.2600.2180(xp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158)it's the
academic version and vista is RC1 build 5600. Network Magic is a home
networking software package.

OK I'll assume the XP is Pro and Vista is Ultimate. In Vista go to the
Control panel and pick Networking and Sharing Center. Confirm that Network
doscovery and File Sharing are On. Open Windows Explorer and create a
folder. Make sure the folder is not in My Documents or somewhere in your
user profile but directly in the root of a partition. Right click on the
folder and pick Share. Make sure you share it with Everyone. Make sure you
have a user on both computers that has the exact same user name and
password. Reboot both computers and logon as that user. Can the XP computer
see the Vista computer now? Note it may take up to fifteen minutes before it
becomes visible. If it still doesn't work post back with any errors that you
get.

Problem solved, I just installed Pure Networks, Network Magic on both
computers and bobs your uncle, done in a matter of about 2 minutes, sure was
easier than trying to manually set up both computers. Thanks for all the
help all the same. You might want to have a look at it (Network Magic), it's
fool-proof, and I'm living proof of that LOL.

Glad to hear you got it working. I prefer not to use 3rd party applications
if not needed but if it worked for you then that's great.
