I have two SATA 120gig drives on my system.
The first one is has two partitions at equal size. C and D
drive with WinXP on C. The second one is just partitioned once. I want to
delete the D: drive on the first drive and make it one partition, just C: I
have Partition Magic8 to do this. When I delete partition D: and try to
resize C: to the maximum, I get a message that says I am
over the 1024 cyl. limit and the drive may not be bootable. Is it true that
I cannot have one partition on that drive and have it bootable? Does anyone
have a large drive that is partition once and has it boot to WinXP?
How big can I have this drive partitioned and still have it boot? Thanks,

That is strictly a warning message for people who still use the FAT file system. You will be fine if you're using FAT32 or NTFS.

I think the limit is 128mb so you should be OK.
I have recently installed a 180 mb but can only access 131mb without 3rd
party software.

Thanks,

Common /warning/ given by PartitionMagic 8.0: When the Master Bootrecord
(MBR) is LBA-compliant then just ignore the warning.
Note that older OS'ses like Windows 95/98 and NT 4.0 (SP4 or up) need to
have a partition start below the 1,024 cylinder limit (8 Gb)
Windows 95 and NT 4.0 (< SP4) need to have a start below 2 Gb...
