As-U-Type See asutype.com

I really don't know Works, but I don't think you will be able to spell
check until you get MS Word. As-U-Type is cheaper than MS Word. It will
work with all your programs, not just Outlook.

You can get a trial program to test it out and see how you like it.

BTW I am not involved with them in anyway other than I use their
product.

You need software from Microsoft like publisher etc. There's always a catch
with them!!
There are programs available from other companies also --check at a few
software freeware sites.

Outlook Express has never had spell-checking capabilities of its
own. Instead, it relies upon the
presence of other Microsoft applications, such as the Office Suite,
Word, or the Works _Suite_ (which includes Word, not the regular
Works). There are also some 3rd-party shareware/freeware solutions
available at any of the many shareware sites on the Internet Spell
Magic seems well thought-of, though I haven't tried it myself:

I know, this is a nuisance, isn't it?

There might be an easier way round it, but what I do is open up the Word
Processor in Works, copy and paste my e-mail into it then click on the
spell-check "ABC" button. Look to see if your version of Works Word
Processor has a spell-check, then stick it on your desktop for easy access.

It is a bummer that Outlook will no longer recognize Works
as a spellchecker. I will try to use one of the freeware
items. Thanks to all. mdudley

All wrong answers, please know what you are talking about
before you start spewing out missinformation.

CAUSE
This behavior can occur if any one of the following
conditions is true: . The value data for the
SharedFilesDir registry value does not contain a trailing
backslash (\) in the following registry key (that is,
there should be a backslash immediately after Shared
Tools):
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shared Tools
Absence of this trailing backslash prevents location of
the Csapi3t1.dll file and causes the spelling checker not
to function properly.
.. The Csapi3t1.dll file, which is located in the Program
Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Proof folder, is
missing or damaged.
.. The Mssp232.dll or Mssp2_en.lex file is missing or
damaged.

RESOLUTION
WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may
cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall
your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you
can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor
incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

To resolve this issue, use Registry Editor to verify that
the value data in the SharedFilesDir registry value
contains a trailing backslash: 1. Click Start, click Run,
type Regedt32, and then click OK.
2. Double-click to expand the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder,
expand the Software folder, and then expand the Microsoft
folder.
3. Double-click to expand the Shared Tools folder, and
then click the SharedFilesDir value.
4. On the Edit menu, click Modify.
5. Type C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\ in
the Value Data box, and then click OK.
6. Quit Registry Editor.

To resolve this problem once and for all and to enable Outlook Express spell
check facilities, proceed as follows,

Copy csapi3t1.dll and WINWORD to C:\Program Files\Outlook Express

The csapi3t1.dll does NOT have to in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft
Shared\Proof as most internet geeks dictate.

WINWORD, a component of Microsoft Office 97, contains a spell checker and
dictionaries.

The csapi3t1.dll can be sourced from a number of places, as follows,
'Google' for it on th web
Copy it from the Windows XP or Windows 98 installation disk, etc.
If Microsoft Office 97, or similar is not available, then 'Google' for Free
Spell Check
Downloads from the web.
A Spell Check I have used in the past is OE 2.1.exe from
http://www.geocities.com/vampirefo/
Provided that Outlook Express has the a/m *.dll installed and spelling is
enabled, then OE 2.1.exe will do it's stuff.

Have fun out there
