My client runs XP Home edition on a Sony Vaio and has suddenly been unable to
log on. Windows boots okay but none of the users can login. When the password
is entered they are signed on for just long enough to glimpse the desktop
wall paper and then automatically logged out. The first time I encountered
this I was able to sign on after trying several times. I ran a virus scan and
got quite a few hits. I cleaned what I could. There were several (4 maybe)
files that weren't able to be cleaned. I signed on and off several times
after that successfully but the next day no one can get past the welcome
screen. I am sure this is the work of a virus, but does anyone have any idea
how to get in to eridicate it?
