xp and lexmark z82

I have purchased a Dell Demension 2400. I have a Lexmark
Z82 printer, scanner that worked with Windows 98se. I
have tried to uninstall the printer and then apply the
correct driver, and the firmware and the scan feature
still won't work. It is connected with a parallel port
and the error message says usb error. Help!!!!

It's a Lexmark. Follow Bruce Sanderson's instructions at

http://members.shaw.ca/bsanders/CleanPrinterDrivers.htm

After the cleanup, reboot, download a new set of drivers from the Lexmark
website at www.lexmark.com and install the software BEFORE connecting the
printer.
