How do we get the Administrator account to show up on the login screen, and
how can I change the password. My system has an OEM installed XP Pro, with
just a recovery CD, not an installation CD.

TIA

Bob

"The Administrator" account OR your administrator account?

I f your lookimng for "The Admin" account, why and why change password?

You can't even find it!!!

That answer just leaves me with less understanding than I started with.

What exactly do you mean in all 3 sentences?

Bob

When XP is installed, a local account called Administrator is created with a
blank password. If you are not joining a domain, XP setup will ask you to
create another account that will have admin rights to the computer. The
original Administrator account can only be accessed by pressing
Ctrl+Alt+Delete twice, or in safe mode. You don't really need it. You
should, however change the password. Leaving a default password is
dangerous.

Asher 's response should've answered your question!!

Not sure why you want to change it.
Especially since it is somewhat hidden.

The reason I ask is because I am buying a machine in which XP will be
pre-installed. I am concerned that there is a an administrator account when
I get it, that may or may not have a password, and which I haven't set.

I just don't like the idea of having hidden accounts, that are accessible,
without a password set by me, so I want to set it.

So now I know how to access that account on the login screen, but how do I
change it's password. In User Accounts, I don't see the Administrator
account.

like I said yesterday Asher already gave you the answer.

Ansher quote: "The original Administrator account can only be accessed by

dangerous.'

it should be there when starting in F8 safe mode.
tap/press F8 frequently when booting up. if you get into windows, reboot and
try again. keep trying!!

login to administrator account and set a password.
