My mom bought Windows XP for our home computer about a
year ago. I recently installed it on our other home
computer. It wants me to activate the product but i don't
know how to do that because it is on another computer
which it was already activated on. We still use both
computers.
..

You will need to purchase a second copy or license of WinXP. You are allowed to only place the OS, on one (1) PC at a time. The activation feature that MS added to XP, is to prevent exactly what you are trying to do.

On the activation page, call the 1-800 number and ask for a new code.
They'll tell you what to do to get one. I think the number is: 8885712048.

Careful: MS is getting nasty about pirated software (unlicensed software
that's not paid for) and if they discover you use it on two computers, well
.... they aren't differentiating between pirates and newbies without
experience, I think to make a lot of noise about their phony protection
schemes.
Should you get it activated on the new computer, any problems you have
with the old one will be a prob lem if you ever have to reinstall for any
reason because according to MS it won't be an activated version or it will
be activated but on the wrong computer, implying piracy. Sucks, but it's
true.
To run it on two computers, you really need two licenses; so you must buy
it again.

Then you may not use it; you must buy another copy. Windows is provided
as a license to use on one machine per copy, and one only. Hence
Product activation, to bring the point home
