I had an engineer load XP on a customers desktop with a copy that had
already been utilized. It will not allow us to activate it. We have a new
license for XP for this machine, but do not want to re-load the machine from
scratch. Is there a way to activate it with the new license that was
purchased but no used to load the system?

Previously in microsoft.public.windowsxp.help_and_support, "bud"

just keep in mind that (some) single user license keys and enterprise
license keys are not switchable (e.g. if you try to replace a single
user key with an enterprise key, it will error out).

We found this out when we tried to change some computers at work
using a newly acquired enterprise key. We ended up having to re-image
the drive using the new enterprise key/software.
