MSN now checks to see if you have a valid copy of XP. I have a valid copy and
activated it when I installed it. When MSN attempts to confirm I am a valid
user, the program bombs so I assume I am not a user with an activated
version. I went in to sysem and ran the program activate, but that program
tells me my software is already activated. Anyone else having this problem or
is it just this dumb computer?

If your version of XP is activated by the PC then it is probably something
wrong with either the website or maybe activeX controls on your browser (I
think the activation check uses activeX anyway).
Have you tried doing it using another browser?

Use this tutorial:
http://www.petri.co.il/change_the_serial_in_windows_xp.htm

This will help you put a fake CD key to remove the normal one.
Then just type in the normal CD key again and activate it again ;)
This tutorial covers everything :D.

It really won't matter which browser I use, but yes, I have tried different
browsers. I get this message on all updates now. When I check for updates
and it says I have one available, I select express and it loads a program that
checks the validity of my OS. Everytime, it bombs as if my OS is not
activated.
I have seen where I can reload or repair XP, but you take the chance of losing
all your old programs. This is not an option, since I have years of
information
on this hard drive and yes, I can back it up, but again, there is no
guarantee it
will all restore. Why doesn't MSN just ask me for my serial number when they
suspect an OS is pirated? It makes the good guys look like crooks.

Thanks anyway
