I need access to 2 domains within my company.
I am situated on the same ip range as one of the domains
and on a different range to the other and I am a domain
administrator on both, both PDC's running NT4 server
service pack 6a.
I can log on to a windows 98\NT workstation and access
both domains but My laptop is running XP and I can only
access the local Domain. I can ping and view the remote
server but I'm not allowed access to the remote domain.
If I remote access the 2nd server I can see my laptop in
network neighbourhood but aren't allowed to access it but
I can access win98 workstations and the servers, NT & 2000.
I have now taken my laptop to the second site, given it a
second ip address (and gateway)on this range. When I try
to log on to the second domain, I can't. When I try to log
onto the first domain, It allows me too but I can only see
my pc in the domain.
I was unable to get it join the second domain whilst at
that location.
Help please!
I've been through services and started any I thought that
may relate to net logins, security, etc... still nothing
(after a reboot and trying to access both domains).
I've been to computer manager (when connected to bothe
domains) and tried to add my pc. It doesn't recognise it.
I'm assuming there's some kind of permission block within
XP, a colleague has the same problem too.

You can't belong to more than one domain at a time. You can either set up a
trust between the two domains, or always log into Domain A and then access
resources on Domain B by specifying the credentials when mapping a drive
(either thru net use or Win Explorer).

As was said, a machine is in at most one domain.
You can map a drive to the second domain, using
DomainB\Username while logged into Domain A.
Thereafter, connections to that same machine in
DomainB will be more simple as it will use the
existing connection as a guide.
It sounds like you should consider setting up
trusting between these two NT 4 domains.

There is a trust between the 2 domains and we can access
the other domain from worksations with the OS's.
My laptop computer name is setup on the first.
This is why I believe it to be an XP problem\permission
issue.
