Has anyone had problems with the Accessibility programs
in XP? I can't get the large print and the caps lock
beep to work. I have used the Wizard and also set them
manually, and neither one works. This is a small problem,
but it bugs me. My computer is new, and I think that it
should work! I would appreciate any ideas. Thanks

If your PC is "new", have you contacted their tech support for help? Fooling around with the settings could void your warranty.

This is most likely an issue with drivers on your setup or a conflict with
some other application you have installed. Start by visiting the websites
of your various device manufacturers, soundcard, graphics card, etc. and
check for the latest drivers. If you have older devices and they don't have
XP drivers at the website, you should consider replacing those devices.

Also, assuming you have an actual XP CD as opposed to a recovery CD or
recovery partition, place the CD in the drive, when the setup screen
appears, select Check System Compatibility, the report it generates may give
a clue as to what is going on. If you only have a recovery CD or partition,
the utility, known as Upgrade Advisor can be downloaded from the following
site:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/howtobuy/upgrading/advisor.asp
Note: this a large file, about 50MB. If you don't have broadband access,
you might want to download it from a system that has such access.

Usually, adjusting settings of this type will not void the warranty as this
is a part of the usefulness of the OS and lies within the "Merchantability"
clause, meaning the product must function. While that may not necessarily
apply to all features of the product, it does not mean attempting to adjust
such features will void the warranty unless specifically spelled out in the
warranty. I've never seen a warranty that said you couldn't make
adjustments using user level options.
