Does XP 64 entail any problems with drivers or whatever, versus sticking w/
the old XP?

Thanks

"entail any problems" ? What do you say that means.

There are fewer of them, and in some cases they can be buggier. Other than
that, no.

Microsoft and their partners tend to treat 64-bit XP as a sort of
second-class citizen, I'd suggest sticking with the 32-bit variety unless
you have a pressing need for 64-bit (and then I'd check hardware
compatibility).

Presumably with Vista this will change. It would be really great if within
the next couple of years the 64-bit driver support for Vista will be as
good as Linux'.

64-bit Applications are lacking at this time also. That should only get
better as more users migrate to a 64-bit OS's.

I assume the XP-32 runs on a 64-bit CPU?

Does XP-64 have an Upgrade version?
Can I "upgrade" from WinME to XP-64?

If the 64-bit hardware can run 32-bit software. This is not something
that software has any control over.

No. It exists only as an OEM product.

No, see above. BTW, if you're running WinME on a 64-bit machine, then
you know beyond doubt that your 64-bit hardware will run 32-bit code.

1. Do you have any 64 bit applications?
2. Do you have access to 64 bit drivers for all of your hardware?

If you answer NO to either question, don't bother with XP 64.

I'm not running WinME on a 64-bit machine. That's the issue. WinME is the
only OS I have right now. I'm considering buying a new machine this year,
thinking I'll want to get a 64-bit CPU, and trying to figure out if I can
get an upgrade XP or if it's best to get a full 64-bit XP. It will probably
come with 64-bit XP if I get a package deal PC, but I need to figure the
best way to get the OS if I buy parts and build my own.

What hardware issues might I get running a 32-bit OS with a 64-bit CPU? Do
I need to research the MB, or the CPU, or should every kind work?

There is an x64 newsgroup. You should post there for x64 issues.
