how do i keep it from d/l msgs older than 30 days ?

If a newsgroup has a ton of headers to download, you'll be presented with
the "Set number of headers to retrieve" option box, pictured about
two-thirds of the way down this page:
http://www.slyck.com/xnews.php?page=2 Slide the "Start" arrow to the
right to reduce the number of older headers you will download. The
"Start" end of the slider is the oldest headers; the "End" is the newest.

You can also bring up this "refresh headers special" box by right clicking
on the group and selecting "open special."

I'll bet there's a way to write a killfile expression to kill all articles
older than ???????. Why not ask this question in news.software.readers?
