Xbox to usb driver problems

I recently purchased an adapter which should allow me to connect my Xbox controller to my usb port allowing me to use this controller to play games on my pc. I downloaded the drivers from the net and then tried to install them

When I pluged in the adapter I expected to be prompted to install drivers for the device but what I actually got was a little speach bubble saying "New usb device found" then "unkown device" and then "Device is installed and ready to use". Fantastic I thought windows must allready have the drivers but no when I tried to use the controller nothing happened. Next I tried to install the drivers manually useing first add new hardware wizard and then using devicemanager. Both of these resulted in windows saying that the folder (which contained the drivers) "dpes contain any information about your device". I then assumed that the drivers were wrong but I managed to install the whole thing sucessfully on a friends pc in a matter of minuits.

Can anybody help me
Has anyone had the same problems?

Correction****Using add new hardware wizard and device manager result in windows saying "does not contain any information about your device". ****
