The header window takes up a lot of screen area. Is there any way to
decrease the height of the header window by increasing the message window
height? I like to see as much of the message as possible.

In this regard, Xnews has a good arrangement, IMO.

Two ways. You can right-click in message pane and choose how you want
your headers displayed; I like Custom. You can drag the separator
between the Message Tree pane and the Message to the position of your
liking.

That changes the amount of data in the message, but not the Message
display area.

Yes, that does make the Message pane wider, but not higher.

I did find this; a tiny arrow symbol in the separator bar between Message
pane and the header pane above. Click it and the message is expanded,
headers dissappear. Click again and it reverts to normal.

So it looks like the height of the Message pane can't be increased and
still see the headers.

Thanks anyway,

Why can't you just drag the separator window? I do that when I visit
binary forums and want to see the picture. Grab it over by the little
arrow and move it to where you want.

Not the vertical separator, but the horizontal one.

Ok, that does work to decrease the header space. Thanks for mentioning
that.

There is a horizontal space below the toolbar, has a pane labeled "run
batch". Is there any way to delete this bar to gain more screen space?

Thanks

Thanks, it's looking good now.

I spoke too soon.

The last time I ran Xana yesterday, it was normal, opened ACF fine.

The next time I opened Xana, this morning, I checked the advice you gave
me, it worked, Left it running.

Later, I clicked on my server, notice ACF is listed in light grey,
several MS newsgroups are in black

When I select ACF, the message screen opens, but it will ONLY download
headers from one of the MS ng, it will not go to ACF. At the bottom of
the screen is :micorosoft....... (ng) is waiting in queou- or similar.

Since I'm new to Xana, I only went to ACF, never to the MS ng, even
though I subscribed to them when setting up Xana.

This seems like a bug in the program?

Light grey means a dormant group. You are subscribed, but the default
action is to do nothing when selecting to download headers. The black
newsgroups have unread messages in them. If there were replies to your
messages they would be a different color. The other possibility with
your ACF group is that all messages have been "read." That would make
it unbolded also.

Right-click on the Account and go to Properties and make your preferred
adjustments there. Afterwards do the same for Newsgroup. Make sure
the ACF group is not Dormant.

Not a bug. You subscribed to the MS groups and they inherited derived
settings from the Account. You can then fine tune the individual
newsgroups to your preference.

Feel free to contact me via e-mail if you prefer. I am willing to help
you with setup of Xananews. It's really more simple than you think. I
will send you screenshots if you prefer that.

You told me about dragging the message window border UPWARD, that worked
fine.

I made both MS subscribed ng's Dormant. On ACF, I selected "Not to make
Dormant", don't know that changed anything.

Afterward, ACF is still grey, and MS ng's are STILL black. ????

I was now, though, able to open ACF and get messages.

Thanks for your help, but think it's just about wrapped up. I have to
post in Xnews. When I looked for this thread in Xana, I got the last 300
messages. It showed most of the thread, but did not show your last
message, maybe there were 300 messages after yours, but I wonder.

Also in a thread, I have to click on each reply to see the answers to
them. It does not show all messages continuously in the thread at one
time ?

I am sorry you are having so much trouble. Somehow I suspect it is due
to the different way all the newsreaders you are testing work.
Xananews is probably not so intuitive to you since using Xnews. Xnews
was very confusing to me and I dropped it in favor of Xananews.

If you are asking about the headers in the Message Tree Pane, you
should be able to click on the first message and the entire thread
opens up. Of course you must set up the options properly, like this:

Also, I forgot to mention the strongest points of Xananews. Batches,
keyboard shortcuts, and coloring of threads in the Message Tree.

Batches allow you to set up default actions for different newsgroups on
the same server or on a different servers. For instance , I can set up
a batch where it gets all messages on two groups from one server and
messages from three groups on a another server.

Keyboard shortcuts allow me to customize keyboard combinations or
single keys to do a particular action such as "mark all messages read",
"find next unread reply to me", "perform default action" for that group
or server, etc. There are a myriad of keyboard combinations available
for your use.

And last but not least, you can set up a color of your choice for
threads you have participated in, threads that have replies to you,
colors for certain users, etc.

All options are available through a GUI that does not require messing
with .ini files. The author has a forum that he participates in
regularly and there are many who will answer your questions there also.
I have only begun to tell you of its fantastic capabilities.

Thanks for the image, and the help.

This is a long thread, so if anything else, I will try contacting you
offline, as you seem to be a Xananews expert!
