I was wondering if any one else used this newsreader in here?

I have. It's quite good. It has tons of options to customise your
newsreading. It handles binaries well, and does combining and decoding of
yEnc etc. It also allows you to enqueue several tasks, and stop and start
them.

EDEB.

I use this newsreader and am quite pleased with it. It has many useful
features and I can't bring myself to use other ones anymore. The
keyboard shortcuts, batch files, and color coded posts in the Message
Tree are especially pleasurable.

I mainly frequent text groups. Another poster commented about its
handling of binaries. I think it has a problem with animated GIFs.
Otherwise it is quite adept at binaries.

There are also two active forums where the author is present to discuss
bugs and enhancements.

That was me. Didn't know about the animated gifs thing. I only ever use it
for MP3 binaries and ebooks. It handles them fine.

I like the program very much, but how can I tell it to check for new
groups only? Also can it be made totally full screen, as Gravity can?
By that I mean, when I click on an article title, it then shows the
message full screen.

Thanks for any help.

The Server pane will have little green dots around a subscribed server
that has new groups.

I don't think so. Personally I don't like that option.

I assume that Barbara is still running an older system, with a monitor
with a low resolution, or has bad eyes and needs to read in large
letters. In such a case, a mesage might be too large to view it in a
program window.

I set my Gravity up in a way, that I can see a *lot* of the message
body. Still, while tagging the message bodies to be downloaded, I
sometimes maximize the group message headers window temporarily, in
order to avoid overlooking topics that might be interesting, especially
if a thread tends to increase vastly, and covers the whole window,
while expanded.

You see, tagging a thread in general, will always expand said thread,
according to my configuration. I don't want to miss messages that came
in belated, and such.

There might me reasons for maximized windows, and I think, this feature
isn't that hard to implement.

Similar situation here badgolfman.. I read a lot of text newsgroups and
this program has one great feature that Forte Agent and a couple other
newsgroup readers I have looked at do not do..

Filter message bodies and headers, along with some additional stuff
like crossposting and other stuff that can be done with conventional
newsreaders.

I have been using Xananews for about two years and have been impressed
with the author and his NNTP newsgroups, along with his
resposnsiveness.. Not many programs do you see people still supporting
their software like this as long as XanaNews has..

There are some thing that I wish XanaNews had like easier use for
people who are Outlook-leaning, very easy to use type of stuff. Have
to remind myself to email Colin about that.

I follow a couple binary groups that use .gif and .jpg that tend not to
be one of the *BAD* newsgroups. I have generally tendened to use Forte
Agent for this for it's protections and overall handling of graphical
newsgroups.

Have to recheck into using those groups with XanaNews.. Wonder why I
stopped using the program for the groups?

I was just curious how many others like me used this program.. :-)

It has some very nice filtering that does not seem to be included in
other NG readers. (I listed most of these in another post in this
thread,,)

I really do not know how Barbara questions can be answered.. if she
does a search for XanaNews, she probably can email the author and ask
him.

Or she could join the XanaNews NNTP forums, a very good place to ask
questions..

You're right, it has a problem with animated gif's, if you open a message
in a group that contains an animated gif and then goes to another group (I
think the other group then is on another server) then xananews crashes.

(Colin has gotten multiple bugreports about it from me)

Still xananews is the reader that all-around works best for me.
