We are currently rolling out WXP SP2 to our desktop PC's but I have noticed
a worrying trend which is causing us concern. At least 20% of the PC's have
to be restarted at least 3 times before the service pack installs properly.
For example, on the first restart it might take 10 minutes and then go back
to the logon prompt. The next time the PC is restarted it tries installing
the service pack again. This can happen up to 5 times before it is
successfull. Obviously, this causes disruption to our users and means we
have to ask them to restart their machines at the end of each day to reduce
the disruption during working hours.
This is particularly important to us as the next phase is installing to
laptops which need to have the SP installed in one hit as they do not come
into the office very often.
The SP is being installed via group policy from the .msi file.
