wupdater.exe error

I continue to get error saying wupdater.exe is not
reponding. This started a few weeks ago while installing
a program but is getting worse. The system is now
extremely slow at startup and I am getting more errors for
other programs not reponding....p2p networking for
example - which I dont' know what that is.

I ran virus scans 2 times and found nothing. I now can't
open IExplorer and get an error saying it has encountered
a problem and must close. My ISP SBC YAhoo will conect to
the internet but I can't open any web pages - it just says
the page can't be displayed.

is wupdater.exe causing all these problems? How can I fix
them?
