wuauclt.exe keeps starting cluttering my Event Viewer

I turned off automatic updates in XP SP1 but I keep getting these ESENT
source events 100,101,102, and 103 in event viewer. These are all related
to wuauclt.exe. What's going on?
Prior to 8/15/2004 I have NONE of these events in the log.
The properties of the file seem ok, and there's a certificate from Microsoft
good through next year. Virus scan doesn't pick it up, so I think it's a
valid file. But why does it keep starting and stopping?

You're using winodws update V5 right? Auto update is still loaded even
when you turn it off. You need to set the auto update service to
either manual or disabled, but then the windows update site won't work
either.
