WU install/downloading freeze

I get to WU page fine. There are 8 critical updates there. When I go to
download them and install when the install/download screen opens it freezes
right there.


Just started happening. Using WinXP Home SP2


I have to use end task in task manager to get out of it.

I use AVG Free manually but I made sure nothing was running from it. I even
disabled the services for AVG. I also shut down my firewall (ZALPro) and
still have the same problem.

Sometimes after I end task to close IE6, which I have to do after it
freezes at "dowmoading and installing updates" and restart it and try the
windows update link under tools again it freezes instantly without even
going to the update page. This also happens if I enter this link
http://update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us direcly
into the browser without click the WU shortcut under tools.

Is there a way to remove it completely and reinstall it? I can't figure it
out.

All Windows/Microsoft/Automatic Updates do is add an additional layer of
BS that can screw up during the patching process. With the addition of
WGA, that adds yet another layer of totally worthless code that can f*#k
up the patching process of Windows/Microsoft Update.
