Wrong path in start menu

Hallo,
since 3 days, i don´t know why, the button "start" and the programs in
the "start menu" have wrong links pointing to "D:\Dokumente und
Einstellungen\All Users\Startmenü" instead of "C:\Dokumente und
Einstellungen\All Users\Startmenü". How can "D" to "C" in that link? Any
Help is very much appreciated.
Background: Windows XP Professional SP1 is installed on disk "C" (Disk
1 in BIOS), while disk "D" (disk 0 in Bios)contains an image of "C" as
Backup. Unfortuntely, I didn´t backup for several weeks, so it´s
important for me to restore the links to their original values, i. e. C
instead of D. I tried updating via windows XP CD, but that didn´t change
anything, and system restoration (Sytemwiederherstellung) by windows XP
does not work (wrong link?).
Many thanks for answers.

Try changing the User Shell paths in the registry.

[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folder]
and
[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folder]

You may need to log off and log on after you performed the changes.

Hallo and many thanks for fast response.
I started regedit, looked for the keys, changed the values for the paths
in "....../shell folders" (in "...../user shell folder" there was no
path to change), closed regedit and reopened regedit to see wether the
changes were still there. To this point, all was o.k.. Then I shut down,
restarted (warm or cold boot, also in safe mode), reopened the registry
with regedit and all changes made (D: to C:) had disappeared. The links
again were pointing to disk D:. What can i do?
Many thanks in advance and best wishes.

Update
The problem seems to be solved. I disconnected the second HDD and now,
at the moment, all seems to work fine. No data lost.
Once again many Thanks.
