I have made a slipstream cd but when i go to use it it wont accept the
original cd key.
Does anyone have an idea why this is occuring.
Also can somone direct me to some information on how to add all of the
downloaded updates to a new slipstream cd that I want to create

The key is more an issuse at the moment because there is no point making a cd
if i can not use it if it wont accept my cd key

You must make your slipstreamed XP installation cd with the same version
of XP for which you have the Product Key. For ex., if you have XP Home
OEM, the Product Key you have will not work with any other flavor of
XP.

How to slipstream sp2 into XP

The CD doesn't accept the key. The operating system installer does. If you
are using the correct key it should not matter if you are installing from a
slip streamed CD or the original. Have someone else read the key and write
down what they see it as. Compare it to what you read it as. Different eyes
see things in various ways.
