wrong file extensions

After downloading photos from my Nikon into windows xp, I tried to viewthem
and could not. All the file extensions had been changed from .jpg to .db. I
have other photo files from the same source with no problems. I tried a
conversion program, but it will not touch the .db files. Please help with
any suggestions.

Do the files still have numbers?
00001.db
00002.db

Or do they all say thumbs.db?

I have not seen this issue before but I wonder
if it would help to rename the files and add the
..jpg extension?

It is one big file named thumb.db
