wrong close button icon

the best descripition that i can give is that it seems like the wrong font is
being used for the minimize maximize and close buttons as well as for several
other buttions (tick boxes, scroll up/down buttons). this behavior can be
seen in this screenshot <a
href="http://www.jamon98.info/images/example.jpg>example.jpg</a> this is
present in all older accounts, but recently created accounts on this machine
do not exhibit this behavior.

I had a similar problem with my wife's computer. We believe that this was
caused by spyware or a virus, but we are not certain.

Unfortunately, I do not have a good solution. We tried copying fonts from
another computer,which did nothing. We tried reinstalling the OS on the
exisisting one with no results. I finally resorted to formatting the hard
drive and installing a new OS. It is likely that something in the registry
has gone real bad.

I understand your frustrations. I wish I had found a better solution.

I ended up finding the solution in another forum, it provided a KB
article dealing with win98 but worked:

it seems that it was a font issue with the Marlett.ttf font that i
inadvertantly deleted. after copying the file from my 2000 dual-boot
partition, everything seems to be working fine. it's still strange that
the new account didn't exhibit the same issues tho, but it's working now.
