I just used Nero to write data to a dvd using a Sony r/w dvd drive, and put
it on a Memorex dvd-rw 1x-2x dvd. Nero told me it was successful. I then
tried my XP Pro OS to see what was written. It shows nothing. If I press the
eject button the the folder of My Computer fot the drive, out comes the dvd,
as expected. ... Very funny. I was testing this for the third time, and now
it shows up. Oh, well. I post this, since I've gotten this far. Maybe
someone has experienced something similar.

Interestingly, when I query the size and a pie chart appears, the circles is
completely filled, and the text shows 0 capacity and 0 space available. The
mysteries of XP.

Not really an XP problem...
You used a third party application (had to actually) to burn the DVD and the
third party application told you it was successful.

What does the third party application tell you about the DVD in question
(you said nero.. Put in the DVD, within NERO either press CTRL+I or choose
(from top) Recorder --> Disc Info. Report that back here.

Also note that a closed session CD/DVD will always show free space as 0
bytes - because you cannot write to the CD/DVD again. And since Windows XP
has no native support for DVD writing - it will always assume a closed
session on DVDs.

Windows explorer always assumes the same media is in the tray, unless you
eject it/then close it again. My version of Nero automatically ejects the
media, then windows explorer checks the media after reinsertion.
