Write to directory tree?

I was told in a previous post that software that refuses to run as a limited account could do so if the users group was granted the ability to write into the directory tree. Is there someplace that gives step-by-step instructions on how to do that? I'm a real novice. I want to run a tax program in a limited account. Thanks...

To set, view, change, or remove file and folder permissions:

1. Open Windows Explorer, and then locate the file or folder for which you want to set permissions.
2. Right-click the file or folder, click Properties, and then click the Security tab.
3. Do one of the following:
--To set permissions for a group or user that does not appear in the Group or user names box, click Add.
Type the name of the group or user you want to set permissions for and then click OK.
--To change or remove permissions from an existing group or user, click the name of the group or user.
4. Do one of the following:
--To allow or deny a permission, in the Permissions for User or Group box, select the Allow or Deny check
box.
-- To remove the group or user from the Group or user names box, click Remove.

What I would do is grant the user admin rights, installing the program
with them logged on. After it is installed, change the user account back
to a limited one.. It should run for you....

Hi !!
I have the same problem,
I have WINDOWS XP HOME EDITION and when somebody with a limited account tries to run a technical catalog, gets the message:"A temporary file needed for initialization could not be created or could not be written to". The path that shows is C:\DOCUME~1\JORGE|LOCALS~1\TEMP
Since XP HOME EDITION doesn't support user's permissions and doesn't show the "SECURITY" tab, it seems that there isn't any solution other than give the user admin status, but I don't want to
I will try the solution of giving the user an admin account, re-installing the program with him logged in, and then changing his account to a limited one again
Any other suggestion???. Thank you !!
Carme

Kevin,

I tried your suggestion of changing the account type to
admin, reinstall the program and then take it back to
limited. It works fine while the user's account is still
admin, but when I change it to limited, I continue
getting the error:"A temporary file needed for
initialization could not be created or could not be
written". Do you have any suggestion??. The OS is HOME
EDITION.

Thanks,

Carmen
