Right click on the file in question. Go to properties. If the file is not

isn't.
Huh? Write protect on a folder/file that is on a hard drive? Write protect
is some physical or electrical function afforded by the device or its
driver.. There is no write-protect attribute for folders and files. There
is also not write-protect function for a hard drive because you must be able
to always write to it. Maybe you meant that the user did not have Write
permission (i.e., write denied, but that is not the same as write-protect).
Since dad can run the software, he has sufficient permissions to its files.
If he cannot save files into a My Videos folder, maybe permissions are
screwed up on that folder (and, if so, on lots of others under his profile
path). Maybe he is using a My Videos path under some other account's
profile under which is not logged in (i.e., he logs in under account-A and
wants to use My Videos under account-B). Even if dad has an admin-level
account, permissions can still lock out admin accounts. Check permissions.
